Edgar De Koker is currently the Registrar at Nelson Mandela University and has been in this position since July 2019. Prior to this he was Deputy Registrar: Secretariat and Policy Management at the University of the Western Cape. He was also employed at Parliament South Africa from 1996 to 2003.

He holds a BA degree from the University of Cape Town, a BA(Hons) degree from UNISA, a Masters degree in Public Administration from the University of Warwick (UK) and has recently enrolled for the Doctor of Business Administration in Higher Education Management at the University of Bath (UK).

He has provided governance training to Members of Parliament in 1999. In addition, through the Cape Higher Education Consortium (CHEC), he has provided governance training to managers within the higher education sector from 2009 to 2014. He is one of the principal authors of the Registrar’s Handbook that was published in 2022.

As a member of the Registrars’ Forum, he currently serves on the Legal Advisory Committee of USAf.

His personal philosophy is three-fold:

  1. He must always add value to the organisation at which he is employed or leading or is involved in.
  2. Change is inevitable and he ensures that change adds value and does not compromise good corporate governance.
  3. Life is about balance i.e., family, work, spirituality, and continuous personal development.
